Should I Buy A Club Membership?
When it comes to your monthly budget, every dollar counts. Whether it’s food, cleaning supplies, clothing, or general housing appliances, it’s important to stretch the budget as far as you can. For many, the best way to do this is by joining a shopping club like Costco, BJs, or Sam’s Club.
While a shopping club may be ideal for some, it’s not for everyone. To help you decide if it’s for you, here are some things to consider as to whether or not you should buy a club membership.
How Much Are You Buying?
One of the biggest benefits of club membership shopping is that customers can buy in bulk. While something like a 32-pack of family detergent may not be necessary for the bachelor who lives on his own, bulk buying can be a necessity for some large families. Therefore, consider what it is that you’ll be buying, and how much of it, and then look to see if the club stores off discounts in bulk.
Many people who run their own business also rely on these club stores in order to make bulk purchases for customers or employees. As a small business that is looking to save money at every corner, while still keeping employee morale high, a club membership is going to come in handy.
What Are You Buying?
Prices vary quite a bit between club stores and regular grocery markets. Even if you buy in bulk and prices are better at the club store for one thing, milk or everyday goods may be better purchased at the corner store. If you find yourself only purchasing the latter, then investing in a club membership may not be worth it.
Are You Always On The Go?
The great part about club shopping is that it’s quickly growing and expanding in popularity. Costco, for example, has locations around the world. When you are on the other side of the globe and all you’re craving is something that Costco offers, you’ll be very happy to have that membership that grants you access.
Is It Worth It?
At the end of the year, take tally of your purchases and determine whether or not it’s worth it for you to have a club membership. These clubs often require an initial deposit to be a member, but the hope is that you’ll save money in the long run. If you don’t, however, then a club membership may not be ideal. On the other hand, chances are you’ll quickly realize that if you shop a lot and purchase in bulk, then you’ll have a hard time finding better deals than at a club store.
